At many centers, when men with prostate cancer undergo rectal hydrogel spacer placement, they return at a later time for simulation. Is that necessary? In this study from Wash U, 21 men underwent same-day hydrogel spacer/fiducial placement and immediate MRI/CT simulation. They then had a verification MRI at least 3 weeks later. There was no significant difference in prostate or hydrogel volume on the verification MRI. Although, hydrogel volume slightly decreased in 15/21 patients by a median of 3.4%. There was also no difference at verification between the centroids of the gel and prostate or of the laterality of gel position. Last, there was no significant difference in fiducial marker location. | Brenneman, Pract Radiat Oncol 2021
