June 30, 2017. Cancer mortality has declined over the past decades in the US. The good news: that benefit appears to be shared among both poor and rich counties across the country. The bad news: this has come with a sharp rise in cancer incidence. Interestingly, this rise is much greater in richer counties--fueling the argument that much of our spending on cancer screening works to detect early cancers, few of which would ever threaten lives.
