Over three quarters of all Medicaid beneficiaries have their care contracted out by their states (obligated to provide coverage) to managed care plans (with no obligations to provide coverage). An interesting investigation in this week’s JAMA explores the volatile world of contracted insurers jumping the Medicaid ship with the changing tides of health politics, with significant geographic variation.
