June 2, 2017. Children with epilepsy have limited safe drug options, so maybe natural remedies are the way to go. A study this week in NEJM reports that kiddos with drug-resistant seizures randomized to cannabidiol had half the rate of convulsive seizures compared to those on placebo. Though this did come with GI side effects and fatigue, drug-resistant epilepsy is often fatal. Plus, cannabidiol doesn't have the psychoactive component THC which means its FDA approval may supersede nationwide cannabis legalization battles. Especially if our new attorney general has anything to say about it.
